0312 is in the form of a white powder, easy to dissolve in water to form a

neutral solution and is free of ash and ammonium salts.

0312 reacts with free vegetable tanning agents and syntans, including highly

sulphited vegetable extracts and lignin sulphonates, to form a tough,

elastic, pale coloured resin. The insoluble resin is incorporated into the

structure of the leather. This reduces the water absorption of leathers,

especially vegetable-tanned leathers, and improves their abrasion resistance

and perspiration resistance. Vegetable-tanned leathers are paler in

colour, and their colour does not darken when they are dried, even under

unfavourable climatic conditions.

 

0312 does not impair the permeability of the leather to air or water

vapour. On the contrary, it reduces the brittleness of the leather fibres,

which has a beneficial effect on the leather’s permeability.

 

0312 can be used to improve the fixation of the vegetable tanning

agents, polymer tanning agents and syntans applied to chrome-tanned

leathers in retannages. This largely prevents them from migrating when the

leather is dried. The result is that the leathers are fuller and have a tighter

grain after retanning.

 

0312 is a very effective fixing agent for the vegetable tanning agents

and syntans used to tan wet white leathers.
